OK...I'm notorious for forgetting birthdays...actually, that's not true. I remember when your birthday is, just most of the time I have no freakin idea what day it is. That's usually what goes down. So for all of you whose birthdays I've forgotten and whose birthdays I will unfortunately forget...this is for you.

Old Man Dave
You know, I was a lot healthier before I started going to all these health professionals. Now I'm breaking down.
To continue from the previous post about going to the dentist...
So I got in today to see a doctor. The nurse took my blood pressure. 118/78. The doctor took my blood pressure. 120/78. It seems that the dental hygenist used the wrong size cuff. (Come on, baby. The guns are too big for that little thing.) My meds are fine. No problem. Now I get to have my wisdom tooth pulled. Hooray?
While I was there, I thought I'd have the doctor take a look at my achilles - which has bothering me for a year now. Bad move. He wants me to wear a "boot" for a month. Well, it's $60 which I won't have for a couple of weeks so in a couple of weeks I'll be hobbling around with one of those stupid things on my foot for a month. But if I don't do it, it will eventually rupture which means surgery and on crutches for a long time.
Stupid boot.

More News
OK Kids,
Hold on to your hats. This is a long, stretched out announcement, but there's good news and bad news. Most of it is bad news, but in the end, it will turn out good.
Bad News: I'm not coming home this summer. I'll be working, though I'm not sure where.
More Bad News: The reason I'm not coming home is, I just had my taxes done and I'm $1400 in the hole. For many this isn't insurmountable, but I still am on a paycheck-to-paycheck existence so yesterday I started looking for a second job. I'm still paying off a loan from Rochester, have car payments and have 3 maxed out credit cards. And I'm sure my more bad news below isn't going to help. All of this leads me to the good news.
Good News: That's it. I'm done. Outta here. Vamanos. The only problem is it's going to take me a while to get back home. Right now, my goal is a year from June. So the next year + is going to suck, but the goal is to get home debt free in June of 2009. The only way this will change is if I land some amazing teaching job in a place I've actually WANTED to live in. But apart from that - I'll be back in Rochester in 14-15 months. I know...a long time.
More bad news: I have to admit, this is getting ridiculous. So I went to the dentist today. First time in a super long time. I take care of my teeth, I just haven't had dental insurance in a long time. So, she does all this x-raying...
I've grown 2 more wisdom teeth! And one of them has to come out! I've already had 4 of them taken out - what am I, a freakin tooth factory?
No, wait. It get's better. I've never had a dentist take my blood pressure before. Until today. And it's high. Too high. Because my retarded HMO won't pay for the meds I was on before I have to take some kickback-special which isn't doing the job. So now I have to schedule an appointment with a different doctor (because my cute Asian doctor is too nice to yell at the HMO) to get my meds adjusted so I can get my blood pressure down, so I can have my 5th wisdom tooth removed.
What...ever.

Summer Starr Update
So, I've talked about it before, but I'm running another political campaign. This is for Summer Starr, who is running for a seat on the State Legislature. We're still working on campaign infrastructure - once everything's in place I'll fill you in on more - and harass you for money.
But for now, sit back and listen to my latest from Crazy Central. So, if you saw my first post on the campaign you know about that crazy chick who's helping us fundraise. Well, one of her ideas was to have Summer's whole family come to this party that was being thrown Upcountry. Turns out I have connections to a lot of these people as many of them are musicians and have some connection to Mana'o Radio.
So, Summer's Aunt had reservations because there would be "undesirables" there, but I took a cautious route and decided that Summer and her Dad would go, but I'd be there and make sure everything was cool. So got there way before they did and it seemed like it could have been a fun time if I wasn't in political mode while trying to look like I was NOT in political mode. And Crazy Fundraising Chick was too busy partying to worry about me, so that wasn't such a bad thing. That is until we were talking about something and when she walked away from me (behind me) I felt her hand start at my shoulder then work its way down to my ass. This is going to be a long campaign.
So, I made sure Summer made a few decent contacts before things got too...uh...partyish. It worked out well. Again...more when we're settled.

Keziah Wrap Up
I know, I know. It's been a few days. Well, I'll finish up with my description of Keziah Week, then I'll do a separate post or two that will end up making you go "Hmph"
So, where was I? Oh yeah....Last Wednesday, Keziah & I started off at the Maui Tropical Plantation. I was there before with Renee & the kids, but this time we got to stop to see the coconut husking demonstration. (I guess they didn't want the kids to get near the sharp instruments) Renee met us there for lunch and the three of us preceded to have a bizarre dining experience. It was if we were lepers and the waiter wanted nothing to do with us. He looked for excuses to not be around us. He got my order wrong and they were out of what I wanted for dessert. But it was mostly that leper thing. But Renee & Keziah hit it off well.
Then Keziah & I went to the wetlands that I've posted about before. Again, sun started kicking her ass so after a bunch of picture taking we left. But she got some pretty good shots at both places.
Thursday started off with the two of us on the air at Mana'o. That went well, even though it was not nearly as crazy as our podcasts. Being the radio god that I am I was doing requests from all over the country - and one, I wasn't able to get in until just yesterday - but I did it, damn it. Stupid Roy Orbison.
Later that night we recorded another podcast. It was...wow. It looks like a running gag has re-emerged on the show - that of "Dave's Mom". Renee came over while Jill, Keziah & I were taping and even she got in shots about Dave's Mom. You just have to hear it. Here's the mp3 if you care to listen. We may even end up having T-Shirts made.
The next day was supposed to be our trip to Hana. And it sort of was. We started it, anyway. As we stopped at a few places on the way, we ended up pulling off the road a few times (as per the guide book) to get pictures that Keziah would be interested in. We walked through this cool bamboo forest. And did this crazy hike over rocks to get to this waterfall....or watertrickle. It was a serious hike. Once we got there, there was this pool where the water emptied to. We were thinking about going in for a dip and were just about ready to - we were both sitting on rocks with our feet in the water. Keziah had just gotten in about knee-deep when I felt something brush against my foot. I looked down and saw something with claws. Uh, needless to say I told Keziah to get out before I could figure out what it was. It was a crawdad. Seemingly harmless, but then we looked closer and over a dozen of them started swarming to where we were in the water. After seeing some of their cousins in the Aquarium the other day and not knowing if there was some kind of Hawaiian Flesh-eating Crawdad, we decided swimming was not the best idea.
So after a bunch of small hikes, Keziah was done. She was the first to admit that the word "sporty" has never been used to describe her so being about half way there, we turned back and went home.
The next morning, we met Peggy and her husband for breakfast, did some last minute running around and then she was gone. At breakfast, Peggy was so relentless bothering Keziah about moving here that she has been nicknamed "the hammer". I'll throw a couple of pictures here, but there's a whole folder full on the Fotki page.
This was supposed to be a picture of Keziah hiking. Unfortunately she took a huge header just before I snapped this. Seriously. But her ass was OK. And I also found out that "ass" is photographer talk for "camera".
Me and Keziah at sunrise at the crater. One of us missed the actual sunrise because he had to pee. Doh!
You can't stop her, you can only hope to contain her.

I Guess I'm Not All That....
Good News: My talk in front of the Maui County Council made the front page of The Maui News.
Bad News: Those bastards voted the ordinance changes in anyway. Guess I wasn't that good after all.
I'm hearing that it's still not over yet, but it's going to get complicated.
